Hi! My name is Petra and I’ve been a dog lover all my life. My dogs have always been my beloved family members. We cuddle on the couch, sleep on the bed together and they come to work with me. I have a huge fenced in yard for playtime and we go on nature hikes. Close to 20 years ago I discovered organizations that certify therapy dogs. I thought this was a great way to spend quality time with them and give back to the community. My dogs and I have volunteered in a wide range of settings including the Matheny School and Hospital for children with special needs, family members of 9/11 victims, adults with developmental disabilities, camps for children diagnosed with cancer, and rehabilitation hospitals.
I loved training my dogs to pass the therapy certification test. It strengthened my bond with them and, more importantly, they truly enjoyed it! I was hooked! Since then my dogs have earned titles in a variety of dog sports including agility, obedience, field, nosework and tricks. They are demo dogs for my online classes, seminars and at Aqua Dog. They exude joy, enthusiasm and excitement when they train and work.
I am a certified canine rehabilitation therapist and co-owner of Aqua Dog Rehabilitation, LLC, which has been in business for 10 years. I have always wanted a facility where our clients could safely board dogs that were injured, recovering from an injury and/or handicapped. At Playful Paws at Petra’s we offer highly specialized care including boarding for dogs with special needs and boarding combined with ongoing rehabilitation.
Patty, our Kennel Manager, has told me many times that this is “her dream job”. She clearly adores all dogs. She is empathetic, organized, safety conscious and clearly loves her job. She has a calming influence on all dogs. They clearly understand they are in good hands.
And, because we all like our pets to look their best, we provide grooming too!
